Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar // Night Markets, Star Courts and Desi goodness

GOODREADS // AMAZON // BOOK DEPOSITORY The daughter of a star and a mortal, Sheetal is used to keeping secrets. Pretending to be "normal." But when an accidental flare of her starfire puts her human father in the hospital, Sheetal needs a full star's help to heal him. A star like her mother, who returned to the sky long ago. Sheetal's quest to save her father will take her to a celestial court of shining wonders and dark shadows, where she must take the stage as her family's champion in a competition to decide the next ruling house of the heavens--and win, or risk never returning to Earth at all. This gorgeously imagined YA debut blends shades of Neil Gaiman's Stardust and a breathtaking landscape of Hindu mythology into a radiant contemporary fantasy.   ( A huge thank you to the  HOV Tours  and HarperTeen for the eARC and the opportunity to be a part of this blog tour.  ~When a book sees you~      Yes I am absolutely going to s

Fantastically Diverse: Master Post and Details

Hello fellow Book lovers Welcome to the first ever Read-A-Thon I'm conducting! I know it seems pretty huge considering my blog is only three months old! but in light of the recent arguments sprouting up everywhere regarding diversity in literature, especially in fantasy prompted me to conduct this Read-A-Thon. Those of you who visit my blog regularly probably saw the discussion post I published here a while ago regarding the very same topic. I was so happy with the massive response to that post and learned so much from the comments there. THANK YOU for that guys! ❤  Hopefully you'll also find this Read-A-Thon interesting and take part!

THE BASICS

➤ The Read-A-Thon will run from 5th January 2017 to 1st March 2017. That amounts up to 56 days. I purposefully made the duration long to make it a very comfortable kind of Read-A-Thon!

➤ There are two levels of participation in this Read-A-Thon BUT no pressure! The number of books you read are totally up to you. The levels are simply an option!

➤ You can join in at any time before January 30.

➤ You can Sign up by adding a TBR post to your blog. If you don't have a blog, don't worry! You can post your TBR on Twitter, YouTube or Instagram too! If those are not options either, you can add a shelf for this Read-A-Thon on Goodreads and participate! When you post your TBR, don't forget to link back to this post so others can join in! Also use the hashtag #FantasticallyDiverse to talk about the Read-A-Thon on Social networking sites.

CATEGORIES AND LEVELS

➤ This Read-A-Thon has 7 categories and 2 levels. The first level is to read one book of each category during the Read-A-Thon. The second level is to read two books from each category during the Read-A-Thon. Like I said before, the levels ARE NOT NECESSARY to take part. And even if you do take part in the levels, you NEED NOT read all the books. This Read-A-Thon is mainly about promoting diversity in fantasy.

➤ If you are not taking part in the levels, you can use the same book for a maximum of 2 categories.

➤ Co-bloggers can split up the categories among themselves.

➤ Feel free to use the banners I've made for the Read-A-Thon or to use your own.

➤ To help you, I've added books that fall under each category (Click on the links to be taken to the Goodreads page). You need not choose from them and are welcome to add any book you want as long as they fall in the given category.

❤ As the name implies, the Protagonist/ Main character should be a person of colour. (The other characters in the story may or may not fall under the category of PoC)

♥ Shadowshaper                       ♥ Of Metal and Wishes
♥ Iron Cast                                 ♥ When the Moon was Ours
♥ The Wrath and the Dawn    ♥ The Reader

❤ This includes retellings of non-western myths and legends such as Alladin, 1001 Nights etc.

♥ The Forbidden Wish                 ♥ The Star-touched Queen
♥ Huntress                                      ♥ Where the Mountain meets the Moon
          ♥ The Blazing Star                         ♥ Sphinx's Princess
❤ The Protagonists have to belong to the LGBTQ category.

♥ Timekeeper                                 ♥ Of Fire and Stars
♥ Labyrinth Lost                            ♥ The Song of Achilles
♥ Huntress                                      ♥ Not Your Sidekick

❤ As the name implies, not just the protagonist but there are other PoC characters too. NOT EVERY character has to be a PoC but a majority of the characters need to fall under the category. (Most of the fantasy books set in a non western setting will fall under this category)

Akata Witch                                             ♥ The Ghost Bride
♥ Stormdancer                                            ♥ Throne of The Crescent Moon
The Immortals of Meluha                     ♥ Daughter of the Sword

❤ Diverse Fantasy meant for middle grade. (Doesn't mean adults can't read them you guys! I love so many middle grade books and read them even now!)

♥ Jinx                                                         ♥ The Lost Hero
♥ Akata Witch                                          ♥ The Menagerie
♥ The Real Boy                                        ♥ Ash Mistry and the Savage Fortress

❤ The book must feature a disabled character (not a background character but a prominent character). The disability could be physical as well as intellectual or developmental. This also includes mental illnesses and PTSD.

♥ Six of Crows                                               ♥ The Real Boy
♥ Borderline (The Arcadia Project #1)     ♥ Among Others
♥ Viral Nation                                                ♥  The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

❤ Go ahead and pick up any diverse fantasy book from your TBR. This will help you get to tackling your TBR too! I'm adding a couple of diverse reads from my TBR!

♥ The Forbidden Wish                           ♥ Certain Dark Things
♥ Ink (Paper Gods #1)                            ♥ The Iron Trial
♥ Otherbound                                           ♥ The Abyss Surrounds Us

You can totally just read however you want with the categories given above OR take part in the two levels.

Level 1- AROUND THE WORLD ONCE

In this level you basically read one book from each category; a total of 7 books for the Read-A-Thon.

Level 2- AROUND THE WORLD TWICE

In this level, you read two books from each category; a total of 14 books.

Again guys, the categories ARE NOT mandatory. You can read as less or as many books as you want.

Create your TBR and add a link to this post to spread the word! Once you've posted your TBR (on you blog/Twitter/Instagram/Goodreads/YouTube) let me know in the comments below so I can add your name to the list below. I hope you guys have fun ♥

To be honest, I'd probably try and get inspired by going through your selection anyway, but maybe I'll stumble over something in my tbr list that fits the criteria.
